Teaching

The central theme of my teaching philosophy is active integrative reflective engaged lifelong learning. My pedagogy is based on my experiences as a student, as a teaching assistant, as a researcher, and as an evolving instructor.Anthropology as a discipline continuously develops as cultures grow, shift, and adapt, and it is my belief that classroom culture follows a similar path. Further, it is unique field that allows students to learn from a holistic, interdisciplinary, and rich methodological approach. Because of this, I strive to foster a learning environment that places value on teaching students the foundations of anthropology, and related foci, while also bringing those traditional discussions into the contemporary lived environment. In doing so, the classroom cultural development emphasizes a safe space for inquiry, discussion, innovation, experiential learning, and knowledge relatability. A major goal underpinning my teaching is for students to actively reflect and apply what they have learned to their everyday experiences.
